私の息子は絵を描くことが大好きです。
彼の付き添いがあったおかげで、今夜、小さな町で開催されているラズベリーフェスティバル(urbansketchers.org) に合わせたアーバンスケッチンググループに参加する勇気が持てました。
到着すると、主催者が無料の小さなスケッチブックと鉛筆を渡してくれました。
ミネソタの夏は日照時間が長く、夜9時近くまで明るいです。私たちは午後5時頃に着き、招待されたアーティストが目の前の景色を描くデモンストレーションをしているのを見ました。ブロックの角には、鐘と時計のある小さな塔があります。アーティストが和紙に水彩を塗ると、まるで魔法のように、黒い線で描かれたスケッチが一気に美しい色をまとって命を吹き込まれました。
息子は「絵を描いている人々」をたくさん描いています。私は初心者なので、アーティストを観察し、彼から学び描く自信がつくまで待っていました。
アーティストがどのように構図を決め、色を置くのかを見るのはとても参考になります。
彼がほぼ描き終えた頃、私はシンプルなボールペンを使って、木や時計塔、街灯、建物の輪郭を描き始めました。
午後7時頃、主催者が次の場所へ移動するよう声をかけました。描く対象は、通りの真ん中に置かれた古いアンティークカーか、大きなラズベリーの像です。
息子と私はその2つの場所へ歩いて行きましたが、ちょうど夕食の時間でお腹が空いていたので、近くのチェーン店に行き、ブリトーを食べました。
アーバンスケッチャーズは2007年に始まった非営利団体で、世界中に広がり、人々がその場で見たものや暮らしを直接描くことを奨励しています。そしてその絵はオンラインで公開され、時と場所の記録となります。画材やスタイルは自由で、参加者同士が支え合い、一緒に描きます。彼らは「一度に一枚の絵で世界を見せる」のです。
私はこれが、自分たちの生活の出来事を語り合う五時通信のグループとよく似ていると感じます。こうしてお互いの人生を共に喜び、感謝できるのです。
みなさんとご一緒に書くことができるのは、本当に幸い祝福です。
My Son loves to draw. His companion gave me courage to go to join the Urban sketching group this evening in the small town hosting the Raspberry Festival.
When we arrive, the organizer gives us a free small sketch book and a pencil.
The summer in Minnesota has long hours of daylight almost till 9 PM. We arrived around 5 pm and saw the invited artist demonstrating to draw the scenery in front of us. There’s a small tower with bells and clock in the corner on the block. It’s like magic when the artist paints water color on the rice paper. The sketch with the black lines suddenly turns to life with pretty color.
My son is drawing a lot of people who are drawing. And I am a beginner so I watch the artist and wait until I feel comfortable to learn from him and draw.
It helps to see how the artist composes his painting and applied color.
When he is almost finished, I start to use a simple ball point pen to outline the tree, clock tower, street light and building.
Around 7pm, the organizer asks people to move to the next spots, either the old antique car sitting in the middle of the street or the statue of a huge raspberry for more drawing.
My son and I walk to the two locations but I felt hungry for dinner time. So, we went to a nearby chain store for burritos.
Urbain Skechers is a non profit organization starting in 2007. It became a world wide group for encouraging people to draw their direct observation on their location and life. And people get to see online for the record of time and place. Any media or individual styles are welcomed. The participants support each other and draw together. Together they show the world one drawing at a time.
I feel this is like our writing group here at 5pm for telling people what we are doing in life. So we can appreciate our lives together.
