１.A friend invited me to attend a drawing activity hosted by Urban sketchers Twin Cities in the museum called James J. Fiorentino Museum.
All the collections in the museum were donated by James, who loved to collect many interesting designs of cuckoo clocks and other vintage musical instruments.
友人に誘われて、Urban sketchers Twin Citiesが主催するJames J. Fiorentino Museumというミュージアムでの描画のイベントに参加した。
この博物館のコレクションはすべて、鳩時計やヴィンテージの楽器など、面白いデザインのものを集めるのが好きだったJamesさんが寄贈したものだ。
- I carefully chose a spot to sit down on my little bench, trying to avoid blocking other painters from viewing their sketching objects. The whole museum was only opened for reservation by our group. Therefore, the only sound I heard in this small and quiet place is the coco sound from different cuckoo clocks with different time. After we finished, everyone put their sketch book on the ground and we walked around in the circle to appreciate each drawing. Each painting has its one of a kind style. There are so many styles of painting, just like all kinds of flowers in the garden. That makes you feel that you are unique and cannot be compared. I also met a Japanese lady who painted with elegant strokes.
私は、他の画家たちのスケッチの邪魔にならないよう、慎重に場所を選んで持ってきた小さなベンチに座った。博物館全体は、私たちのグループの予約のためだけに開かれていた。そのため、この小さい静かな場所で私が聞いた唯一の音は、時間の異なる鳩時計から鳩の鳴き声を聞こえて鐘の音だけだった。
三時間後、参加者たちのスケッチブックを地面に置き、輪になってそれぞれの絵を鑑賞した。どの絵も、自分らしいスタイルを持っていますのて、まるで庭に咲くいろいろな花のように。そう考えると、自分は唯一無二の存在であり、比べることはできないと感じる。優雅な筆致で絵を描く日本人女性にも出会った。
- While drawing through observation, I noticed that each cuckoo clock has two or three pinecone-shape weights, hanging on chains.
The weights are the power sources that store energy and release it in a controlled manner to keep the clock ticking.
This reminds me of Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which was the tallest building in the world from 2004 to 2010. I visited this building a few years ago and saw the Mass Damper, a huge steel ball that counters the wind force and stabilizes the building in the typhoons.
観察しながら描いているうちに、それぞれの鳩時計には2つか3つの松ぼっくりの形をした錘が鎖で吊るされていることに気づいた。
錘はエネルギーを蓄え、それを制御された方法で放出して時計を刻み続ける動力源である。
これを見ると、2004年から2010年まで世界一の高さを誇った台湾の台北101を思い出す。私は数年前にこのビルを訪れ、マスダンパーという巨大な鋼球が風力に対抗し、台風の際にビルを安定させるのを見た。
- I wonder about my life. Is there a weight to give me power to move on or a big ball in me to stabilize the mental shock from the world?
The bible says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)
When I am in despair or weak, calling Jesus’ name gives me strength to keep living.
When I feel terrified by the troubles, praying Jesus’ word calms me down to gain hope.
The name of Jesus and His word are my power and stabilizer.
自分の人生について考える。前に進む力を与えてくれる重りや、世間からの精神的ショックを安定させるマスダンパーが私の中にあるのだろうか？
聖書には、イエスはただパンだけで生きるのではなく、神の口から出る一つのことばによると言われた。（マタイの福音書４：４）
絶望に打ちひしがれているとき、弱っているとき、イエスの名を呼ぶと、生き続ける力が湧いてくる。
悩みによって恐怖を感じるとき、イエスのことばを祈ることで心が落ち着き、希望を得ることができる。
平和の君と呼ばれるイエスの御名と御言葉は私の力であり、安定剤なのです。
